KCCS believes strongly in the powerful impact of group therapy in facilitating learning, connection and support. Group therapy is best utilized as an adjunct to individual therapy or coaching. In group therapy, clients have the benefit of feedback and support from others. However, there is often not time for each member to delve into all the issues they may be facing. For this reason, KCCS requires that all group therapy clients have an individual therapist available to them. If you do not have an individual therapist, please let us know so we can make one available in the event your needs exceed what is offered in the group.

Mikami Puchon, LCSW (they/them) is an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist who primarily works with adults on processing trauma; traumatic events; and current symptoms that create distress (including but not limited to: anxiety, depression).

EMDR is a therapy technique that focuses on the individual’s present concerns and functioning. This approach believes that past emotionally charged experiences are influencing present emotions; sensations; and thoughts about self. This processing helps work through these concerns with a rapid set of bilateral stimulation (eye movement; audio; and/or tactile sensations) that mirror REM (rapid eye movement) which occurs naturally when we are sleeping. It is not hypnosis.

Through bilateral stimulation, we work to “update” the memories to create a healthier and more grounded sense of self.
