Therapy
All KCCS therapists take an individualized and eclectic approach to meeting client needs and supporting clients in reaching their goals. All KCCS therapists are licensed and maintain licensure by participating in on-going education. All KCCS therapists have specialized training in working with gender diverse and neuro diverse youth and their families.
Coaching
The difference between therapy and coaching is subtle. Coaches focus on current issues and goals that are generally shorter term and more targeted than therapy goals. Coaches are not licensed therapists and not trained to offer diagnoses. Coaches are certified and operate under the guidelines of the ICF. A coach is ideal if you have a short-term personal goal and want support, strategies and accountability in reaching your goal. KCCS coaches are specifically trained in working with families of gender diverse youth around parenting challenges.
Parent Education and Support
A 4-week education series that explains the terminology and biology of the transgender experience and then looks at ways that parents can begin to support their teen.
At the conclusion of the education series, parents are eligible to join an on-going parent support group focused on providing them the continued education and support they need to navigate the tumultuous waters of gender identity exploration with their child.
Training for Mental Health Providers
An intensive 4-part training for Mental Health providers who are feeling ill-equipped to support the gender diverse youth they are seeing in their practice. This comprehensive training covers terminology, biology, comorbidity and differential diagnosis, forms of transition, treatment considerations, understanding the parent’s parallel process, intervening at different stages of parental acceptance, and how to create a more trans-friendly mental health practice. Select videos, handouts and some experiential learning enhance the experience. A resource packet of information is provided at the end.
Following the training, a monthly consultation group is available.
GROUP Therapy
KCCS believes strongly in the powerful impact of group therapy in facilitating learning, connection and support. Group therapy is best utilized as an adjunct to individual therapy or coaching. In group therapy, clients have the benefit of feedback and support from others. However, there is often not time for each member to delve into all the issues they may be facing. For this reason, KCCS requires that all group therapy clients have an individual therapist available to them. If you do not have an individual therapist, please let us know so we can make one available in the event your needs exceed what is offered in the group.
